ZeroTier Lan Emulation

As it’s becoming increasingly difficult to play Battle Realms on Gameranger due to the inability to host the game on Windows 10 or 11, there is a useful alternative called ZeroTier LAN Emulation. Setting up this alternative is relatively simple and allows players to enjoy Battle Realms Legacy easily. Here’s a tutorial on how to set it up. It’s important to note that this setup only needs to be done once.

To get started, you’ll need to download ZeroTier using the links provided below.

Once you have installed ZeroTier, you will see an icon in your computer’s system tray located at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

To begin, simply right-click on the ZeroTier icon and select “Join New Network”

Enter the following Network Code: d3ecf5726d36c0a9

It’s important to remember that this code is unique and is what connects us to the same network.

Once you have successfully connected, you should see the words “Battle Realms” displayed as shown below.

Before you are done, there are a few more setup steps you need to complete. First, right-click on the internet icon and choose “Open Network & Internet Settings” (as shown in the photo below)

Then choose “Network and Sharing Center”

Next, click on the ZeroTier One network as shown in the photo below:

Click on Properties:

Double-click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” next.

Click on “Advance”

Uncheck the box next to “Automatic metric” and type “1” in the “Interface metric” field, as shown in the screenshot below.

Finally, click on “OK”. Congratulations, you’re all set!

To join or create a game, simply navigate to the Multiplayer section of Battle Realms and select “LAN”

Here are a few tips for troubleshooting:

Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software trusts the LAN network you created with ZeroTier. If Windows 10 or 11 prompts you to trust the network, select “Trust”. Sometimes this setting is in the firewall in your antivirus.

After disconnecting and reconnecting Zerotier, it’s important to ensure that the “Interface metric” is set to 1 once again.

If you’re hosting a Battle Realms game but others can’t see it, be sure to check that Battle Realms is allowed in your firewall settings.
